What is a Certificate of Analysis?
A Certificate of Analysis, or COA, is the document a laboratory produces after testing a specific batch of material. It records what the compound actually is and how much of the sample is that compound rather than anything else.
It matters because purity is the one claim in this industry that cannot be verified by looking at the product. Two vials of white lyophilised powder look identical whether they are 99% pure or 70% pure, cut with mannitol, or a different peptide entirely. The report is the only thing standing between a claim and the truth.
A COA is only meaningful if the laboratory is independent of the seller. A report we produced ourselves would be worth nothing.
What to look for on a report
- Batch or lot number
- Ties the report to a specific production run, not to the product in general.
- Test method
- HPLC-UV quantifies purity. Mass spectrometry confirms identity. A report with neither is not a purity test.
- The laboratory's own identifiers
- A genuine report carries the lab's reference number and can be checked against the lab directly.
- Date of analysis
- Purity is a property of a batch at a point in time, so a report should be recent relative to the batch.

Identity and purity are measured
The lab runs HPLC-UV to quantify purity against the reference standard, and mass spectrometry to confirm the compound is the sequence it claims to be.

The report is published
Janoshik issues a report carrying its own reference number, which you can check against the lab directly. If a batch comes back below 99%, it does not ship.
